MightyMeals Provides Nutritious, Fulfilling Meals to the Culmore Boys & Girls Club
Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2019) – When MightyMeals co-founders and Northern Virginia natives, Dan Graziano, Stefano Marzano and Alex Lebonitte found out that children were going without food in their own backyard, they knew they had to do something to help. Every Tuesday, MightyMeals, the DMV’s top meal prep service, prepares between 100-150 extra meals for delivery to the Culmore Boys & Girls Club.
“At MightyMeals, we believe in zero food waste… and there is a lot of food waste happening in the food industry,” remarks MightyMeals Executive Chef and Co-Owner, Stefano Marzano. “If we can do our part to help eliminate this, while also feeding hungry children, then it is a win-win for everyone. We know exactly where the food is going, and how many kids we are helping feed every week.”
The opportunity to work with the Boys & Girls Club means more than just dropping off food each week. MightyMeals also supplies the club with unused containers, and any other leftover food, so that the kids can create their own meals to bring home to their families. Additionally, Marzano is looking forward to working closely with children who have an interest in learning to cook. The Culmore Club has recently renovated their kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances thanks to generous sponsors, and MightyMeals is excited to help support and guide these energetic young chefs as they explore their culinary passions.
The Boys & Girls Club believes that MightyMeals’ food inspires and reinforces healthy eating as part of a daily routine. The staff aims to teach the kids that healthy and delicious food isn’t something to choose between, but rather it should go hand-in-hand as part of fueling your mind, body, and soul. Luckily, the children are able to apply these teachings by having a healthy and delicious dinner, with the convenience of simply popping it in the microwave.
“The generosity of MightyMeals to feed all of our kids and their families is truly moving. For many kids, it is the last meal of their day, and for some, it is the only full meal of their day,” stated Patrick Leonard, Branch Director of the Culmore Boys & Girls Club. “As a result of these children having nutritious, filling meals each day, the staff have noticed that they are more engaged, energetic, and focused after a long day at school.”
Despite its location in one of the nation’s wealthiest areas, Boys & Girls Clubs are often located in tiny pockets of extreme poverty. The neighborhood that the Culmore Club serves has an average household income of $23,000, which is less than the single living wage in Fairfax County. The club serves over 10,000 meals per year to underprivileged children, and because of the generous MightyMeals meal donations, the club now has extra funds to put towards providing financial aid to families, creating scholarships for graduating youth, and hiring staff so they can serve even more children.
“MightyMeals’ partnership helps align donations to our core principle of helping youth live healthy and active lifestyles,” says Leonard. “For that, we are forever grateful.” For Marzano, the feeling is mutual. “This is a situation near and dear to our hearts, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community who has given so much to us.” MightyMeals’ partnership with the Culmore Boys & Girls Club in Falls Church, VA, has been a heartwarming and fruitful relationship for the past six months, with even bigger plans for the future.
